Philadelphia Inquirer | 04/13/2006 | Delta pilots march as talks continue

Philadelphia Inquirer | 04/13/2006 | Delta pilots march as talks continue:
"More than 300 Delta Air Lines Inc. pilots marched near the company's headquarters yesterday and placed a giant inflatable rat on a street corner to symbolize what they see as corporate greed in management's effort to void their contract and impose pay cuts."

Does anyone else see the contradiction in this. They protest management greed, but how much do they make? I would wager that I could live a good long time on one week's salery that these guys make. GREED INDEED!

NASCAR calls TV magazine 'outrageous' for tactics - NASCAR - Yahoo! Sports

When is a story not a story
The National Association of Stock Car Auto Racing said the NBC network's "Dateline NBC" confirmed it was sending Muslim-looking men to a race, along with a camera crew to film fans' reactions. The NBC crew was "apparently on site in Martinsville, Virginia, walked around and no one bothered them," NASCAR spokesman Ramsey Poston said Wednesday.

Maybe because it was not the story that everyone wanted it to be.

Austria detects bird flu in cats

Austria detects bird flu in cats

The discovery, in the southern state of Styria, follows the detection of H5N1 in a dead cat in Germany last week.

That case was thought to be the first example outside Asia of the virus crossing species to infect a mammal.

Not a good sign of times to come. One would assume that these animals at a shelter would be seperated by cages, therefore this is now an airborne mutation.

FOXSports.com - MLB- Gowdy's voice will be missed

FOXSports.com - MLB- Gowdy's voice will be missed:
"Where does he rank among the all-time sportscasters? In my opinion, he's one of the all-time best. He worked in an era where less was expected than modern-day announcers. He didn't have the network longevity that today's super-announcers have. But Gowdy dominated an era like no one else. His voice is missed. His expertise is missed. There aren't many left that remember DiMaggio and Williams in vivid detail."

Another of the voices of my youth is gone. Many Red Sox games in my youth that I watched on the old black and white TV were voiced by this wonderful talent. And he was the voice of American Sportsman on ABC and many of the parts of ABC's Wide World of Sports. He made me interested in many sports I would never have followed otherwise. Curt, we have missed you for years, I am sad that your voice will now be silenced forever.

Windows Wireless Flaw a Danger to Laptops

Here is another Windows 'feature' that you might want to know about. It is amazing that one could create an ad-hoc network and not even know that they were doing it.

IOL: Sprint to offer full-length movie downloads

IOL: Sprint to offer full-length movie downloads:
"One question facing Sprint and the wireless industry is whether handheld-device users want to watch a feature-length film on a 2-inch or 3-inch screen."
I am obviously not in the demographics they are wanting to reach, but I can tell you I have no interest in watching something that small. I have a hard enough time with my eyes as it is...

Even more abuse of teaching prilidges, this time it was caught.

"Reading, Writing and Tired Hippie Politics

Teachers in Madison, Wis., had their third-graders composing and mailing letters urging a halt to the war in Iraq as part of a civics lesson — until school administrators stepped in and put a stop to it, the Wisconsin State Journal reported.

Julie Fitzpatrick, one of the 10 teachers at Allis Elementary School that dreamed up the project, said the assignment was intended to demonstrate 'citizen action,' a standard part of the district's social studies curriculum.

'We saw peace as a common good,' Fitzpatrick said. 'We were just advocating that people keep working toward peace.'

But following complaints from some parents, school officials pointed out that even in Madison teachers are discouraged from 'exploiting the institutional privileges of their professional positions to promote candidates or parties and activities.'"

"The handout, titled 'Your Daddy Kills Animals,' features a grinning lunatic gutting a fish, and warns kids to keep their puppies and kittens away from Dad because he's 'hooked on killing.'"

I have said it before and I will say it again. One of those wacko PETA nutcases gets near my children and starts this stuff I will sue. They try to justify it by saying that the kids see worse on Saturday morning cartoons! My kids do not.

Imagine if this had been toward the left and not toward the righ and see how much yelling there would have been:

Art of prayer: Are we out of practice? | IndyStar.com

Art of prayer: Are we out of practice? | IndyStar.com:

"For Monty Gaither, Thanksgiving prayer is one of those issues that has been glossed right over in the grand tradition of ignoring family drama.

Gaither is the Arizona state director of American Atheists, and does not pray. Yet, at one turkey dinner, there was no getting around it.

'My oldest sister had recently converted to Pentecost,' says Gaither, 49, of Phoenix. 'She knew I was an atheist, knew that neither my wife nor I or son pray. We all sat down, and as I got ready to help myself, she said, 'Now, let's pray.' Well, while she prayed, I went ahead and filled my plate and my son's plate. She gave me a look, and then we ate.'

There was no discussion, and never another prayer."

Classic tolerance of those who do not like religious ways. Tolerance means we are tolerant of them, not them of us.

Quick fall from top by Kurt Busch - Motor Sports - MSNBC.com
There is a God and he has a sense of humor. For a racer with a sponsor of Crown Royal to be pulled over and fail a breath test, I think is funny, especially since he advertises for them that people should 'Drink Responsibly'. It was right that the defending champ cannot drive the last two races. The punishment fits the crime in my thinking.
